Jamil joined the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme after noticing that his weight, energy levels, and rising blood sugar readings were beginning to impact his everyday life. Feeling increasingly tired, struggling with sleep, and finding physical activity more challenging, he recognised the need for positive lifestyle change. “Before joining the Healthier You programme, my weight and blood sugar levels were becoming a real concern. I felt tired all the time, struggled to sleep well, and even simple things like climbing stairs felt difficult. I was close to developing Type 2 diabetes, and I knew I needed to act—but I didn’t know where to start.”

The Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme is a free programme designed to help people at risk of Type 2 diabetes make lasting lifestyle changes. Through group sessions, expert guidance, and practical tools, participants learn how to improve their diet, increase physical activity, and manage weight. The programme empowers individuals to take control of their health and reduce their risk of developing diabetes in a supportive and informative environment.

The monthly sessions helped me understand the impact of my eating habits, portion sizes, and the kinds of foods I relied on day-to-day. I learned how to make healthier choices without feeling like I was giving things up, and that made all the difference.”

“Alongside improving the way I eat, I also became more active. I built regular exercise into my routine, which helped boost my energy levels and confidence. I started focusing on consistency rather than looking for quick fixes, and that mindset shift has been incredibly powerful. I also improved my sleep habits, which has had a positive effect on both my mood and my daily motivation.”

Our session delivery is targeted to support participants adapt to the lifestyle and diet changes they have made, ensuring they are able to sustain changes and moving forwards post programme. Our Health Coaches provide an understanding of mindful eating, feeling fuller for longer, and knowing your triggers.

“The results have been really encouraging! My weight reduced from 124.3kg to 120.9kg, and at my lowest I reached 118kg. Like anyone on a health journey, I’ve had natural ups and downs, but overall, the trend has been steady and positive. My HbA1c has reduced from 48 mmol/mol to 44, and I’m now working towards getting it below 42. Seeing those numbers improve has made me feel proud of the work I’ve put in.”
