The new normal – Michaels’ story
Referred by his GP to Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, Michael managed to reduce his risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, by losing a significant amount of weight and changing his active lifestyle for the better with the support of our Health Coaches.
“I was surprised to find myself pre diabetic,” said Michael. “I considered my diet to be good, I don’t have a sweet tooth and I exercised most days, but following my results from the GP, I was determined to achieve normal blood sugar levels again.”
Our trained Health Coaches provide NHS approved group sessions offering ongoing support over a period of 40 weeks. The group sessions focus on nutrition and activity guidance to assist in making simple lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of developing diabetes.
“Since joining, I have lost 10% of my body weight and almost doubled my exercise to an average of 9,200 steps per day. My HbA1C reading is now back in the normal range, and I believe the dietary changes I have made are now the new normal for me.”
Participants can learn how to increase their physical activity levels, making every day active. Our group sessions bring likeminded people together to understand the importance of a balanced diet and daily exercise.
Michael shared: “Healthier You has very much helped me to focus on the changes I needed to escape from the pre diabetic zone. I weighed myself at every session, I know that sounds extreme, but for me it was a way of staying in control. Helen is a great Health Coach and has been focused, supportive and a great guide for us all during our time on the programme.
