The importance of nutrition- Steven’s Story

Steven was referred to the Healthier You: Diabetes Prevention Programme by his GP, following routine blood tests showing higher blood glucose levels. Hear in his own words how he managed to improve his diet and lifestyle.
“I like many people, had no clear understanding about sugar and fat levels in many foods except for portion size. I felt that I've always eaten healthily but the information shared throughout the course of showed me that many areas needed improving.”
Our group sessions consist of 40 weeks of NHS approved support, with our fully trained Health and Wellbeing Coaches, who can provide informative, fun and interactive discussions amongst likeminded people on similar journeys.
“I still aim to maintain a healthy diet, have regular exercise and limit alcohol intake. But further now, I do try actively to reduce snacking and eating the wrong foods. Recently, I have found myself reading food labels on products I buy at the supermarket. This is something that I have never done before.”
Our session delivery is targeted to support participants adapt to the lifestyle and diet changes they have made, ensuring they are able to sustain changes and moving forwards post programme. Our Health Coaches provide an understanding of mindful eating, feeling fuller for longer, and knowing your triggers.
“Throughout the programme, I maintained a sensible weight and managed to reduce my cholesterol which is now at 3.3. My diabetics blood sugar was 42 and was told that I'm no longer borderline for Type 2 diabetes. Overall, this programme has had a positive impact on my health, and I aim to use what I have learnt moving forwards.”
