No longer prediabetic – Meg’s story
Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme is there to support those who are ready to make the necessary changes to reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Hear about Meg’s journey, as she tells us how she managed to reverse her diagnosis with our support.
“I had been diagnosed as prediabetic by my GP, as my HbA1C results were at 43. A referral was made by my GP, and I was keen to make the health changes I needed, for good.
“Since joining, I’ve taken onboard all the advice given during our sessions, and although I already walked around 70,000 steps a week prior to joining, I’ve since increased my exercise.”
Our group sessions consist of 40 weeks of NHS approved support, with our fully trained Health and Wellbeing Coaches, who can provide informative, fun and interactive discussions amongst likeminded people on similar journeys.
“I didn’t really have a sweet tooth; however, I’ve reduced the amount of red meat I eat and try to maintain a more balanced diet and monitor my portion sizes too. I’ve really benefitted from the sessions, and the pace of learning allowed us time to concentrate of the information being delivered by our Health Coach.”
Our session delivery is targeted to support participants adapt to the lifestyle and diet changes they have made, ensuring they are able to sustain changes and moving forwards post programme. Our Health Coaches provide an understanding of mindful eating, feeling fuller for longer, and knowing your triggers.
“Since being diagnosed as prediabetic and joining NDPP sessions, I’ve lost 7kg in total. I don’t suffer with my previous hip pains anymore and have recently completed a marathon walk for the Samaritans charity.
“Our amazing Health Coach, Daniel, was informative, patient and extremely skilled in facilitating involvement from the whole group. I returned to my GP and for another blood test, seven months into the course, and my results were reduced from HbA1c 43 to 38.”
As a result of Meg’s journey with NDPP, she has successfully reversed her diagnosis and is no longer at risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. On completion of the programme, Meg shared:
“Since taking part in the programme, I now feel well, young and active. I am loving retirement and being able to run around after my grandchildren, go camping and seeing more of the outdoors with walking. Thank you NDPP!”
