Making informed choices for a healthier future – Michael’s story

Making informed choices for a healthier future – Michael’s story

Before joining the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, Michael felt he lacked knowledge about healthy eating, and the impact diet could have on his long-term health. Through the programme, he gained the information and support needed to make healthier lifestyle choices and take greater control of his wellbeing.

You can have the option of face-to-face, digital or remote. Through the digital pathway, participants will have access to the Second Nature app to take part in the programme on their phone. The app will support you through a series of behaviour change ideas with access to a support group and Health Coach over a nine-month course.

“Before I started the programme, I was uninformed about diet. I ate too much processed food and consumed a lot of unnatural sugars without really understanding the impact they could have on my health. The programme helped me understand the importance of making informed food choices and showed me that healthy eating doesn't have to be complicated. It gave me the knowledge I needed to start making positive changes that I could maintain in everyday life.”

“Since starting the programme, I have focused on eating healthier, more natural foods. I've reduced processed sugars significantly and now choose fruit as a healthier alternative.  Making these changes has encouraged me to think differently about the food I eat and how it affects my body. I'm much more conscious of the choices I make and the impact they can have on my future health. The improvements I've experienced have been really encouraging. I feel less tired, sleep better and exercise more than I did before.”

“Having more energy and better-quality sleep has made it easier for me to stay active and continue building healthier habits. The positive changes I've noticed have motivated me to keep going and make further improvements. The programme has had a big impact on my life. It was very informative and really motivated me to take more care with my diet, keeping fit and looking after my general health.”

“I now feel more confident in my ability to make healthy choices and understand how small lifestyle changes can have a significant impact on reducing my risk of Type 2 diabetes. The knowledge and motivation I've gained will help me continue on my journey towards a healthier future.”
