I’ve lost a total of 9kg! – Anthony’s story
Anthony joined the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme after blood test results showed he was at risk of developing Type two diabetes – a “huge wakeup call” that prompted him to join the service: “Looking back”, said Anthony, “prior to joining Healthier You, my diet and lifestyle weren’t positively helping my health. For example, I was eating at the wrong times, not getting enough exercise, and eating unhealthy food.”
Our Health Coaches deliver sessions which demonstrate how to regulate appetite and support weight control, by eating the right foods in the right portions. Anthony continued: “Since attending the Healthier You sessions with my Health Coach, I have learned how to change my eating habits by eating earlier in the evening, and more regularly through the day along with the amount of exercise I need.
Healthier You participants are taught the key factors of creating and maintaining healthy eating, increasing their physical activity, and understanding the concept of energy balance, which Anthony has been putting into practice:
“I have been walking more and have cut back on snacking habits. I’ve managed to cut down on sugary foods, chocolate, foods containing palm oil, and I have switched my coffees to a cup of tea with semi skimmed milk. I’ve been keeping a food diary to reference to when tracking my calories, to help keep this around 2,000 per day.”
With the support of our Health Coaches, Anthony lost more than double the average weight loss for a completer of Healthier You.
