Getting back on track- Peter’s Story

The Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme was recommended to Peter as a way to take action, when his blood glucose levels were recorded higher than normal by his GP practice nurse.
Hear in his own words how Peter managed to implement the changes needed, helping him to feel better in himself.
“Over the 12 months of the programme, I regularly attended my sessions, only missing two which I was able to access online. I steadily lost weight from nearly 17 stone to my current weight at 14 stone by following the advice provided in the sessions.”
Our Health and Wellbeing Coaches deliver informative sessions to groups of around 20 like-minded individuals. The sessions are designed to help participants understand the influence of different types of sugars on health, weight control and diabetes prevention.
“Halfway through the programme, my blood sugar level was re-tested, and I was told I no longer was pre-diabetic! I will continue to have blood test every 12 months by practice nurse to monitor this.”
Our sessions focus on the understanding of diabetes, knowing how to eat well, identifying triggers, and increasing physical exercise and activity. These key elements benefit participants, and help them to feel fitter, healthier and happier after just a few sessions.
“Being told as pre-diabetic was a wakeup call and The Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme was a perfect way to get back on track. I have more energy after losing weight and I continue to follow the advice given. My Health and Wellbeing coach, John was outstanding! Each 90-minute session was a pleasure to attend.”
