A simple change with a positive result – Ian’s story

A simple change with a positive result – Ian’s story

For Ian, joining the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme was an opportunity to focus on his health and think about the changes he could make to improve his wellbeing. The programme provided the guidance and support he needed to build healthier habits and take positive steps towards supporting his health.

“Before joining the programme, I had been referred by my GP because I was at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. I used to play a lot of golf, but this had been significantly reduced since early 2022 because of colon cancer. I wanted to take steps to look after my health and reduce my risk where I could.”

The Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme helps people at risk of Type 2 diabetes make healthier lifestyle choices, giving them the support and guidance to reduce their risk and improve their long-term health.

“One of the changes I made after starting the programme was reducing the amount of fresh orange juice I was drinking. It was a relatively straightforward change to my diet, but it was something I could do to help manage my risk.”

“Since taking part, I’ve had a really positive result as I’m no longer considered borderline diabetic. Knowing that my risk has improved has shown me the value of paying attention to my everyday choices and making changes where I can.”

“For me, the programme has been an opportunity to think more carefully about my health and the lifestyle choices that can make a difference. Reducing my fresh orange juice intake was a simple change, but I’m pleased to have seen a positive outcome.”

“Overall, I’m pleased that I took steps to address my risk of Type 2 diabetes. Finding out that I’m no longer borderline diabetic is a positive result and has given me a reason to continue being mindful of the choices I make for my health.”
